Teda Davis lives in Brooklyn, New York. In 1978 she graduated from the SUNY Agricultural and Technical School in Farmingdale, Long Island with a degree in Farm Management. While she was at Farmingdale, Teda had the opportunity to buy a 6 week old weenling for $20. The piglet was a cross between a Chester White and an American Landrace. She named her Shango. Teda Davis wanted to raise pigs to get a head start on a farm in Virginia. When the pig was 1 year old, Teda took her back to Farmingdale to breed her. Teda kept Shango and her piglets in the back yard. Shango was 2 years old when she was confiscated by the NYC Department of Health. Of her first litter of 13, all but 4 piglets had been sold off by Teda Davis to neighbors. Teda was breastfeeding her 7th child when the police showed up to escort those 5 pigs to a more rural setting. This tape recording is Teda's recollection of that and other pig tales. Shango and her piglets lived in the back yard. But what would happen:
if there were sheep in the pasture that used to be a vacant lot?
if we grazed dairy cows there, too?
if we fed chickens in the front yard?
if we had pig pens instead of roof gardens?

Teda Davis vive en Brooklyn, Nueva York. En el año 1978 se graduó del Colegio de Agricultura Técnica (SUNY) en Farmingdale, Long Island, de la licenciatura en Administración Agrícola. En Farmingdale, Teda tuvo la oportunidad de comprar un cerdito de 6 semanas por $20 dólares. El cerdito era un cruce de las razas Chester White y American Landrace. Le llamó Shango. Teda Davis quería criar puercos porque necesitaba un adelanto para una granja en Virginia. Cuando la puerca cumplió un año Teda la llevó a Farmingdale para ponerla a criar. Teda mantuvo a Shango y a sus crías en el patio trasero. Shango tenía 2 años cuando fue confiscada por el Depto. de Salud de la Ciudad de N.Y. De las primeras 13 crías Teda vendió a sus vecinos todas menos 4 cerditos. Teda estaba dándole el pecho a su séptimo hijo cuando la policía se presentó para llevarse a los 5 puercos a un sitio rural. Esta grabación es el recuerdo de Teda de aquel incidente y otros cuentos de puercos. Shango y su cría vivían en el patio interior. Qué hubiera pasado:
